Does the location of your web host play a role in SEO

We as a technical company for SEO, Web Design and Website Hosting are located in New Jersey.

Does that mean since our servers are located in New Jersey that we can not successfully optimize or web host any company, product or service in Texas? Technically our offices are located in New Jersey, however we possess servers located in New Jersey, Florida, Chicago and California. When it comes to geo targeting a local client's company, does the locale of the website IP Address actually play role?

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION FOR LOCAL SEO AND GEO TARGETING

We recently attended a seminar on this topic and I was surprised It was stated that the location of your web host (where the physical hardware of your web server, where your website is being hosted, more specifically the IP Address of your website physical location) plays a role and is a direct attribute to determining local search results within search engine optimization.  I couldn't believe what was being stated as fact in this seminar, however we were told the origin of source was coming directly from the master of search engines (Google.com). Although the majority in the web hosting community simply accept this as fact, we do not. We simply do not believe Google.com did not give any thought to this. IP address location is an attribute to any level of search engine optimization? There are obviously an unlimited amount of issues if this was a fact.  But I would assume where you have your business hosted, plays little or no role at all when it comes to search engine optimization.

OPTIMIZING YOUR WEBSITE FOR LOCAL TARGETING

Optimizing your website for local search is essentially important when your business is targeting its market audience in a predefined local area. In this scenario, Geo targeting becomes a vital part of your SEO campaign as it is one of the most effective methods of targeting your intended local audience.

But we do not believe the location of where your website is being hosted is an attribute at all if there are other factors or information on your website that actually state the location of your company, product and/or services being offered. I think this was completely embellished by many. I think the thought of the search engine king was, if all else fails and the location can not be determined anywhere on the website.

IP Address location / dedicated ip address / shared ip address

As opposed to focusing on the location of where your business website is being hosted or where the website ip address is physically located, the more important attribute of search engine optimization and also successful business, is whether possessing a dedicated ip address is more advantageous than a shared ip address. I would consider this a more advantageous concern.
